I have an external style sheet and have background images code like this
background: #FFFFFF url("[(rb_base_url)]images/home-online-shopping.gif") repeat-y fixed center;
but it seems I`m doing something wrong because its not working, I have uploaded the image into the images folder, the folder is chmod 777 other images not called from the css work fine. The [(rb_base_url)] has returned the right path cus I tested it and wrapped an image tag around it and it worked, just not from the style sheet.
I feel like a dumbass I need the [(rb_base_url)] call as Iām using a testing server, and will migrate.
should I just use relative paths?

An external stylesheet is not parsed by MODx, therefor the [(rb_base_url)] will not be valid in your stylesheet.
Do you css as a document in modx and you can use settings placehoders, snippets, chunks, whatever.. see
