As a former Etomite user, I’m pleased to learn about MODx and what i’ve seen so far is very impressive.

One limitation of Etomite is that article IDs can only go from -99 to 999 or something like that, thus limiting the size of a site (an issue if you take advantage of Snippits to post things like news items, FAQs, etc.).

So to that point, does MODx limit the number of article IDs? I’m thinking of using it for a project where the site can grow to N pages and be limited only by the size of the database.

    Any info would be appreciated.

    thanks!

No limitation on article ID’s that small here, but there are some practical limitations to current MODx scalability. You can see in the test results in this post, that the problem arises as the document count climbs above 5000 documents. The siteCache file size increases to an unruly size and response time begins to degrade with it. These limitations are being researched and future releases will be able to handle even larger document counts.

thanks for that info! 1,000+ pages is plenty. things like a news area or press releases would just be something i’d write in PHP and use the API to call the output back into the CMS...
