While I’m still getting my feet wet with MODx, I thought I’d toss out this need to hopefully get pointed in the right direction by those with a little more experience.

Have a client with a retail that will be showing some products on their site, but no ecommerce needed, more of a catalog setup of a sampling of in store products.

    Setup:
    Products A
    Brand 1
    Product a
    Product b
    ""
    Brand 2
    Brand 3
    ""
    Products B
    Brand 1
    Brand 2
    Brand 3
    ""

    Site setup:
    Home page
    Products
    Products A
    Brand 1
    Product a
    Products B

Product pages for each product to feature a photo of the product, brand name, model name, model number, and product description.

Brand pages to feature some general info about the brand, and then show all the products with photo, model name and number. Would be nice to also segment them as featured products and regular products, listing the featured first.

Products A/B pages (respectively) to feature all of the brands with a photo of one product from each brand and perhaps a little info about each brand.

Also would like the home page to feature one random image and product name out of all of the products available, or a subset of products designated to be shown on the home page.

A nice plus would be to also attach keywords to each product potentially for searching based on criteria.

Ideally, this will also be setup to allow the owners to add, modify, and remove products without technical knowledge. Probably looking at around 100 or so products.

Any thoughts or ideas on how to tackle this would be great.

    thanks

Use Template Variables for various product characteristics (including Brand, in which case you don’t need to organize your products into subfolders by Brand) and Ditto to output them in any format you like. Each product would be a page with a Product Template (with all your product TVs). Then it’s super easy to manage your products and organize them dynamically.

I wrote a kind a frontend to ditto for product, you can use image and tv, give it a try, perhaps that can help you.
There is categories to filter the products displayed, gallery for each product, list of product with image ...:
        catalogue

Thanks for the suggestions, I’ll take a look at those. I’m learning that one of the challenges with MODx isn’t what or whether it can do it, but where to start!
