I have just performed a fresh install of MODx on the following system:

    php 4.4.0-6
    mysql 4.1.13-3
    suse 10.0
    firefox 2.0

I have imported a really simple html site into MODx and I am viewing the page on the machine that is hosting the web server.

Instead of the rather crappy website I was hoping to see, I got the following message:

    « MODx Parse Error »
MODx encountered the following error while attempting to parse the requested resource:
    « PHP Parse Error »

    PHP error debug
Error: Unknown(assets/modules/quick_edit/output.class.inc.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory
    Error type/ Nr.: Warning - 2
    File: /srv/www/htdocs/SWOA/manager/includes/document.parser.class.inc.php(681) : eval()’d code
    Line: 70

    Parser timing
    MySQL: 0.1191 s s (3 Requests)
    PHP: 0.0302 s s
    Total: 0.1493 s s

This is the first time I have installed MODx - I have seen it in action and would really like to give it a go. I am a complete noob at this but was told it was easy wink I am probably being dumb and missing something obvious.

    Any help much appreciated

Seems to me that all files did not get uploaded to your server, maybe try to re-upload.

Which files do you mean? Do you mean I have not uploaded some of my website files or some of my MODx files? I am getting this in my apache2 error log:

[Wed Nov 01 17:23:27 2006] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] File does not exist: /srv/www/htdocs/SWOA/media, referer: http://localhost/SWOA/manager/

This happens when I log into the manager interface, which works ok as far as I can tell.

            okay,

I have re-downloaded the modx package and the patch, dropped my database and just done a default install wiith the example website. Same problem. Any ideas? Should I try and earlier version?

Many thanks for your help so far, by the way.

What version are you trying to install? Maybe try the 0.9.5 beta if you haven’t yet.. many bugs fixed in that.

Just tried a new installation again using the latest beta - almost the same error:

                PHP error debug
Error: Unknown(assets/modules/quick_edit/output.class.inc.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory
                Error type/ Nr.: Warning - 2
                File: /srv/www/htdocs/Test/manager/includes/document.parser.class.inc.php(706) : eval()’d code
                Line: 70

Are there some php dependencies I am not aware of or something? My apache log still says:

[Fri Nov 03 16:01:37 2006] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] File does not exist: /srv/www/htdocs/includes, referer: http://localhost/Test/manager/

Looking a bit closer - it seems as if it keeps looking for files at the wrong directory level - includes should have a path of /srv/www/htdocs/Test/includes, just as previously media should have been /srv/www/htdocs/SWOA/assets/media

Where would the path be set and how do I change it? Am I talking complete %$@&?

Error: Unknown(assets/modules/quick_edit/output.class.inc.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory

Typically that means something was not uploaded.

I really have no idead where to even start looking for files that have not uploaded - this is the third clean installation I have done - 2 with the stable version and one with the beta5. There must be something stupid I have done cos everyone else I speak to had no issues whatsoever with install - they had their site live 10 mins after downloading the zip file.

Please can anyone give me a better idea of what I am looking for?

did you say that you verified the file actually exists at yourdomain.url/assets/modules/quick_edit/output.class.inc.php?

What are the permissions set to on the folder assets/modules/quick_edit/?
