site_url missing the www

I just noticed that my site_url setting is returning http://domain.com rather than http://www.domain.com. Is this a setting that I can change, or is it something in my hosting setup?

That’s your hosting setup.

Indeed; The MODx site_url configuration setting will use whatever domain is used to access the site on a request. So if you go to domain.com, it will be domain.com; but if you go to www.domain.com, it will be www.domain.com, and the session will be different. You can modify this via Apache configuration or by using mod_rewrite to direct all requests to www.domain.com...

Yeah, that’s the confusing part. If I go to http://www.example.com and view my source, my base href is "http://example.com" so any links I follow from the home page will then be at http://example.com/whatever. Even stranger - I don’t think it has always been like this. I’m wondering if GoDaddy Hosting changed something that would cause this. Until I fix it in .htaccess, is there any reason not to hard code the base href in the template rather than using the site_url variable?

Sure you can do that, if people access the site with the other URL, the subsequent requests will go to the correct place, but the initial request will likely be handled by a different session, if that would cause any issues with your site behavior...(not likely)
