First and foremost, when building a site with a CMS do you guys use the same template for every page on the site? Or do you use numerous templates throughout?

That being said, I’ve designed a template for my site and obviously there is the content that remains consistent on each page (header, footer, menu) so I was wondering what you would use a chunk for that you can’t just keep in the template?

I always have my template be the layout framework only. All content, whether menus or footer content, is in chunks or snippets or TVs, whichever seems more appropriate. That way the template can be changed around if needed, and it’s also a lot easier to tweak the CSS if there isn’t a lot of content cluttering up the HTML.

While sometimes multiple templates would actually be effective and easier, it’s sort of a matter of pride to use as few templates as possible, using TVs with @INHERIT bindings to customize sections or pages.
