    Subject split from here
    I found this strange behavior with the 0.9.5 beta 5 (don’t know if reproduce with previous release):

    • I have one template used for all the site
    • I have a TV affected to this template and to all document (public) with INHERIT binging
    • I use a folder to set the value of the TV to all the child document
    • The folder has no content so I don’t want visitor can view this page. I set the permission to the folder document to "Site admin pages", but the child pages are public
    Results : when I’m not logged in with a webuser which belong to "Site admin" group, the modification of the TV is not used in the child page. If I set the permission of the folder to Public the TV modification is used.

    Some one of the Core code can confirm this is the wanted behavior or should I open a FS ticket ?

        i dont know if its a bug really.. Because simply the user who is not logged in dont have access to any document to inherit the value for the tv.. To me it seems logical and not a bug. If you don’t want the folder to show in menu, set it to ’hide in menu’ and if you dont want people to be able to access it, put a snippet in the document to make a redirect to some other doc.

          The document has:

          Web access: Public.
          Manager Access: Private.

          1. NewsEditor is not allowed to edit parent document.
          2. NewsEditor is not allowed to edit that particular TV.

          Now I added a TV with default value of @INHERIT, I just setup a value for each parent and its children inherit it automatically.

          When a NewsEditor adds a new page under that parent, he can’t view TV field altogether.. BUT as TV has a default value @INHERIT, its there when I as admin login, I can see @INHERIT there.

          Now in public website, the children should have render that TV.

          Does this make sense?

          regards.

            if the document that has @inherit call has a parent documet that sets the tv value and current user has rights to see the parent document, the tv value should be inherited. Otherwise no. So zi, if your document that sets the tv value eg the parent doc is public for web and the value is still not inherited to childs, then there is a bug yes.

              I’ve been going round and round for a couple hours, on what I think is the same or similar issue.

              I was bringing over a test site to a demo site that I am creating... the test site was 0.9.2.1 (or 2) and I was bringing it over to a fresh install of 0.9.5RC2 through manual copy/paste between the two.

              I have a TV in the sidbar of my template which has
              @INHERIT
              <h2>About CMS</h2>
              {{About}}

              <h2>New News</h2>
                [!Ditto? &startID=`42` &summarize=`1` &displayArchive=`0`!]

              The only showing up anywhere on the site is the "About CMS" but nothing after that. If I remove the @INHERIT, then everything shows up fine.

              This worked fine on the previous site so I was thinking I must have copied something wrong or messed something else up, but now I’m thinking maybe not.

                Okay, I just loaded up the new soft-launch version and was hoping this had gone away, but doesn’t appear to be... so now I am wondering if it is a bug or I am misunderstanding how things should be working.

                Still have the following code which is made up of a TV (sidebar1) that includes all of the following code:

                @INHERIT
                <h2>About CMS</h2>
                {{About}}

                <h2>New News</h2>
                [!Ditto? &startID=`16` &tpl=`DittoSummarySidebarTpl` &summarize=`1` &displayArchive=`0`!]

                which is located in a chunk that is called in the template.

                The only thing that is showing up though is the About CMS... unless the @INHERIT is removed, at which point it works fine.

                [edit - clarification, that is to say that only the words About CMS show up... nothing afterwards, including the chunk, the next heading, or any of the Ditto results]

                Anyone have any answers? Am I way off-base in my understanding? If this is a bug, it seems rather huge, so I’m surprised if no one else is experiencing it.
