I am about to install MODx for the first time to test its effectiveness. The support I’m seeking is very simple:

The domain will have several sub-directories and each one of these directories will be its own web site, with its own template(s), design look and feel.

    1) Is MODx able to run as a single instance with all of these different "sites" using different templates for each?

    2) If the answer to the above question is no, can I run multiple instances of MODx for each sub-directory "site?"

    Thanks for your help.

      1) No (but you actually can hack the core to gain this capability)

      2) Yes

      3) (in the future) both laugh

Why not? If it’s all from the same domain, why not make each "subdomain" in its own folder, and use something like the multilanguage plugin to manage which "site" the user is in? With the "inherit parent template" plugin, development of each section would be easy.

The hierarchical (whee, this new Firefox 2.0 spellchecker is great grin ) structure of the Document Tree makes subdivisions like this simple. It’s why I started using it (well, Etomite at the time) in the first place, for a site in four languages.
