snippets, chunks, placeholders, oh my!

Hello,

I am working on making a snippet with the ablity to use a chunk as a template and then replace the placeholders in the chunk with document or template variables (like many of the standard snippets have). I’ve looked through NewsListing the most but I started to get a little dizzy.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to include this functionality in my snippet? Is there a standard way of doing this - it seems it would make a nice helper class if there isn’t one already.
