I’m a French user and I notice that the messages sent by the manager (email for login/passwd, email for retrieving password, etc.) doesn’t manage special characters.
Is it possible to use the same charset as specified in the configuration panel of the manager ?

I’ll see if I can check it out this weekend. Not really sure of the solution at the moment so I’m open to ideas.

That whole system needs reworking. Everybody is waiting for further core developments in the user management area.
When I watch the source of a mail. I see the charset. Perhaps it is possible with the functin used by MODx to set the charset before sending the email ?
Is this function is a core function or a public class ?
