    Hi all,

I’m considering developing an mp3 submission style site - considering that I’m new to ModX, php and web design this will be a bit of challenge for me! Although this is why I’m developing it rather than for commercial purposes - more of a proof that i can lol.

I’ve a good idea of the functionality I want and understand that the creation of a snippet to simply upload the related data is not that difficult. What I’m really interested in is the best way of getting the data back out and the method of storage.

I wish to make use of the power and functionality already present in ModX, and allow the site to make use of future ModX feature i.e. I don’t see any value in replicating the functionality of Jot/Ditto/CSS Star Rating. Am i correct in thinking that much of this functionality is linked to what could be described as the ModX "page structure".

Thus, rather than store my mp3 (and related data) in a seperate database structure would it seem sensible to create a new page every time a file is submitted? Presumably with the use of relevant TVs etc these pages could be syndicated by Ditto, include Jot comments etc.

Is this possible? Is this sensible/logical? Could anyone point me in the direction of any resources for creating pages via a snippet?

My only concern is that I would potentially end up with a huge number of pages, is ModX robust enough to cope with this?

Any thoughts appreciated, being new to backend site architecture I am very curious to hear any opinions.

    Thanks,

    Steve

There are plenty of libraries (at least 3) to access MODx and do what you want in the repository!
Choose the one that does the job for you.

Thanks for the reply Kudolink, I never thought to look for a "libarary" ( i think its a noob thing lol) - some of those looks like creating documents based on a form will be far easier than I first anticipated.

However, am I correct be concerned that creating a potentially huge number of pages is not a good idea? I’m not even sure if this is a good approach or whether it would be better to generate a page dynamically and forego "out of the box" compatibility with other snippets? I’m not even sure if I’m making sense here as I’m unable to speak in programming terms I’m afraid.

Thanks for the tips, and apologies for not finding it without asking.

        Cheers,

        Steve

Well, the number of pages that MODx can manage has been discussed many times: for sure I can tell you that there are MODx sites which runs over 2500 pages without problem (brian.edu if I remember well).

With eforms and a library of choice you can manage you kind of site very well and doing much less coding than you expected and have a page for every mp3, with a description wrote by the user.

            Thanks again Kudolink.

Consider me feeling suitably stupid for not finding these resources; I seem to have spent the last 3 weeks reading these forums but I guess that I got a bit carried away when i finally decided a way of phrasing what I needed to know!

            Cheers,

            Steve

Don’t take it as your fault, the search function in this forum is quite useless.
It’s common behaviour to google the forum using the sintax
              site:http://modxcms.com/forums/ terms to find

Look for this reply of mine, I listed methods to search the forum quickly.
