I have been migrating three sites over to MODx and I have just encountered a problem with using weblinks. The weblinks on two of the three are going to a blank page with nothing on it but the external link URL instead of redirecting it to the page.

On one install (the first one I did) I have a weblink to an external document (a wordpress blog) and it works fine. I have two other MODx installs on the same server but one is in another subdirectory and another is under different domain on the server. The weblinks are set up exactly the same, in one case using the same external URL and in the other case using a different blog URL. Neither of these two links work.

I have FURLs on and working fine. I have changed the FURL settings and still no change.

See what I mean here http://www.snugabugblankets.com/sandbox2/ and click on blog. You will see a page that says "http://www.snugabugblankets.com/blog/".

Please let me know where I should be looking.

What version of MODx are you deploying these on? Any other environment information you can provide about the deployments can help us better diagnose your issue.

I know for sure this was an issue in 0.9.2, but should have been patched in 0.9.2.1.

I am still looking for help. I have tried many things to get Weblinks to Work on the two installations that they are on now. I am looking into the DB tables now to see if there is an issue with something there.

Any advice for possible solutions would be greatly appreciated.

          Sincerely and all the best,

          Jay

This is a bug that was still valid in 0.9.2.1 too. Browse through the known issues thread in general support and you’ll find the fix.

              Doze,

I have also looked at the tables for site_content to compare the working site to the one that is not working. Both seem to have wrong or incorrect data in fields. There seems to be a couple of occasions where the timestamp is being placed into the edited by column and the user id seems to be ending in the edited on field. I know this is not related but it is not a good thing.

Thanks for the help I have found the thread for the weblinks.

The search engine on this forum is not very good as it seems to miss almost 50% of the time and I end up falling onto the answers by browsing.

              All the best,

The editedby etc bug is also a known one and fixed in 0.9.5. I’m not sure if there is a fix to that in the known issues thread. Probably is, but if not, look at the bug tracker for the issue.

And yes, the forum search is very crappy, use google site:modxcms.com/forums <keywords>

I found the solution to my Weblink woes here: http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,4125.msg36025.html#msg36025

To clarify what happened and how it may have occurred. As I mentioned in my first post, I have three installs and the first one is working and the other two were coming up with this weblinks issue. The difference is the way I installed them. The first install was done by uploading the .zip and extracting it using the server’s extraction tool. The second and third installs were done by downloading the .zip, extracting it using 7-Zip and uploading the directory to the server.

I have looked at the document.parser.class.inc.php file in the .zip and in the extracted directory, it seems to be fine. The issue therefore arose when uploaded using FTP--in my case using FileZIlla. I am not sure if it was due to compression or packet loss or what but the file was affected and the comment line feeds seem to have been dropped at line 1071 per the message above.

                  Hope this helps others.

                  All the best,

                  Jay
