I am attempting to edit a document and insert an e-mail address link. When I save the document, the page immediately goes to a 404 not found page. Any ideas?

You’ve got a mess of HTML there, including incorrectly nested tags. Strip out the needless spans/margins/fonts/class="MsoNormal" and things will be a lot easier to figure out. I can’t even find the mailto link in that block of code... Are you generating that from Word? :/

Thats what popped up when I clicked on the source button in the edit menu. That is how Modx is rendering it. The e-mail to link isnt in there because whenever I try to save the document after I add it, I get a 404 error.

MODx isn’t rendering anything. That’s the HTML somebody pasted into the document content field. It looks like a direct copy/paste from a Word document. As the old saying goes, "garbage in, garbage out".

                I am still unable to insert a simple <a href="mailto:[email protected]">mail me</a>
link in a document without getting a 404 error.

That sounds like an <a> tag with either a missing </a>, or the closing " somewhere.

Did you try putting the page through an HTML validator?
