    Hey all...

I’ve used MODx several times before and this time I’m stumped. I’m trying to install it for a client and I get no errors, but it doesn’t install and nothing is created in the database.

The site is hosted on a GoDaddy Windows server (that may be the problem there) with PHP (4.3.x) and MySQL (4.0.x). I’ve even run a few test scripts - PHP works and the database connection works.

    Here’s what happens exactly...
    1. I go to the install screen - shows up fine.
    2. Go through the installation process (db connections work, permissions are deemed correct).
    3. Click "Install Now", get the "Running setup script... please wait" message.
    4. Stays there for a while then I get this: [see attached image]

It looks like it stalls at creating the tables. I dunno... smiley

I could really use some help here. I’d like to avoid switching to *nix. I actually prefer *nix, but if I can avoid inconveniencing my client that would be great.

    Thanks!

      That is strange.
I had a problem sort of like this once, but I didn’t make it even to the install screen.

The half-assed solution that worked for me was to do a clean install on a local machine.
      Export the sql through phpMyAdmin.
Use phpMyAdmin on the remote server to import the sql.
FTP /manager/includes/config.inc.php after changing values that need to be adjusted for the remote server.

This is just a bubble gum and duct tape patch if you need to get this site up stat. there may be other issues with the server, but if your clients are like all other people, they want this damn thing up and making money for them like yesterday.

One of the actual core team will have a solution soon.

Thanks for the quick reply - much appreciated it. I’ll give it a try and see if that works.

Well... I tried that and it didn’t work. I kept getting errors when trying to import the sql file. I may have to switch them over to Linux. <sigh>

Well, if you have to choose a new host, perhaps reveiw the thread - What is the best host? Favorite provider. The hosts listed in this thread have the common denominator of successful MODx installations. There are even some hosts advertising preconfigured modx installations.

If I could’ve gotten them to move when we started that would’ve been nice! smiley They’re a non-profit and don’t want to leave GoDaddy, so instead, I changed their hosting from Windows to Linux. Took several hours, but it did the trick. I was able to install MODx without any problems.

Thanks a bunch for the help though!
