    Hi all,

    <Short intro>I’ve successfully built websites using Pivot, Nucleus, by hand and Textpattern. My current goal is to transform a local tennisclub website (mostly coded by hand, small newsbits by Nucleus) into a fully fledged multi user environment. And that’s why I’m here!
    I found MODx through DavidM from the textpattern forum.
    </Short intro>

    I’ve been lurking the forums for a couple of months and installed the latest beta, but I’m having a hard time getting to understand how to do some basic things. So, if anyone would like to point me to the right resources, I’d be much obliged....

    • What is the difference between web users and backend users? Why would I use one, or both?
    • The website shall contain a lot of static pages and news pages. F.e. the front page will contain static info (welcome, etc.), but also needs to contain a box with news headlines from various other news pages. These news pages can be modeled as a blog (which I’ve seen a tutorial floating around). Should I use Ditto for this? Is it possible to show titles from news posts anywhere on the site?
    • Template variables can do many things. Can I use this for a birthday list (daily changing list with names, pulled from a database?)

    More questions will surely follow.

    Thanks for your time.

      Hello and welcome smiley

      1) Web users are users that can access only the homepage, let’s say for posting comments or so and backend users are users who can access the manager and maybe create/edit/remove documents, snippets, chunks, change settings etc. Manager users can be called admins for example.

      2) Yep, just use Ditto and it will do show your news or whatever you want, anywhere on the site.

      3) I think for showing birthday list you need to create a snippet that will query the DB.

        Ok, that makes sense. So anybody actively working on the site should be a backend user.

        Is Ditto capable of having, say 10 different pages which contain only news (f.e. every committee would get a seperate news page)? If so, can I then create 10 static pages (again, 1 for every committee) that pulls in only headlines from the relevant newspage? And can I also have Ditto call all headlines in a separate box in the frontpage?

        Thanks!
