Two users with write access to the same document are in my new default installation able to overwrite
each others edits. I hope there is a way to set an "exclusive" flag for example, so that when someone
is working on it, noone else can. Otherwise people on different continents who work on the same
article have to tell each other each time they would like to touch it .. and surely thats not workable.
Is there a way?
(Btw, it was slow to assign document groups: for each document, and I have a few, one waits for the
fckedit editor to load, clicks on page settings, scrolls to the bottom and picks group(s). It would
help if one could do a folder at a time, since document groups often follow folders .. I again apologize
if I overlooked the right way to do it.)
I believe that MODx automatically locks a document when being edited. If userA is editing a document and userB tries to edit that same doc, userB will see a message telling them that userA is currently editing the doc and it is locked. This way nobody can step on eachothers work.
This should be "turned on" by default because I belive it is part of the MODx core. At least in my installation I didn’t have to turn this on, it just does it.
As for setting document groups, I don’t believe there is a way to do this to multiple docs at once through the manager. Of course, I could be wrong. I’ve been using MODx for a few weeks now and have not seen any option like that. When I need to do mass updates like that, I just use SQL in the backend database.
Oh good, you are right .. and now I cant make it happen again. As usual I was too quick.
Now off to try find some nice print-stylesheets and web-templates get up- and download
working, then I am set. (wish: more included in the default installation).
(Btw, i have yet to discover how to give a single user write-right to one document group
and readonly-right to others.)
