    Running MODx 0.9.2.1 (rev 1005)

I am a complete newbie with MODx, so perhaps a brief introduction is in order.
I am a PHP/MySQL programmer, and have submitted core code and modules to projects such as www.phorum.org
I’m playing around with MODx on two sites, and am finding the basic CMS side of things to be extremely user friendly, great job!

One newbie security question: is there any way to access the "quick edit" dialogue when logged in as a web user? The documentation says that web users and manager users are completely separate, but I’m not clear on whether web users can be assigned editor privileges. Currently I can add blog entries as a web user, but can’t then edit them unless I log into the manager system. Is this by design?

My next goal is to set up multiple categories which I can assign blog entries too, and have a sidemenu showing all categories, with a numeric count showing the number of articles next to each one.
Reading the forums suggests I should be using Ditto, rather than the deprecated Newsreader? To be honest I’m finding this a little difficult to understand. I am using the default green template, which seems to use the Newsreader. Do I need to download an updated version of Ditto? If anyone could point to a tutorial that shows how to set up categories that would be appreciated. I’ve seen lots of posts implying that as you blog an entry, it is possible to have a multiple select listbox containing categories, but I haven’t seen any example Ditto code showing how to achieve this. I get the feeling that once I start with Ditto it will be incredibly powerful, but I suspect if I just try and swap my Newsreader code with Ditto without understanding it, I’ll just break everything smiley.

    Many thanks,

      At this time, no.

Web users can’t use the manager. There are some scripts that enable web users to edit,

The category dropdown would be from a TV stored with the document (blog entry) - which is then used by Ditto. I don’t know off hand of a tutorial for this.
No, I don't know what OpenGeek's saying half the time either.
