    Hi guys!
I have a flash slideshow on my site which loads images from a folder (image names are read from an xml file).
The images folder, the flash movie and the xml file are in assets/flash.

Although the movie is working perfectly otherwise, once I upload the files to MODx (on localhost), the movie loads but the images are not displayed.

The xml file is loaded in the flash movie as http://localhost/../assets/flash/images.xml .
The images are read from the xml file as /images/image1.jpg etc.
I am loading the flash movie using a template variable.
Kindly tell me whether I am doing anything wrong here.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Is this a custom Flash slideshow, or a 3rd party Flash tool? I recently used SlideShowPro to do a something exactly like this with no problem pulling it in from a TV, but it’s a commercial product (though with a reasonable price).

I have seen flash slideshowPro ..its really good.(quite popular now)
This is something very similar but for flash mx. (whereas slideshowpro is for flash mx2004)
Maybe the problem is with the path to the xml file and images?
I put everything in the assets/flash folder. (Do I have to give the whole path , like http://localhost/.. ?)
I tried different paths but still nothing positive.
        Kindly help. Thanks

I tried with full paths (for the xml file)
          http://localhost/test/modx/assets/flash/images.xml
and the images inside the xml file
          http://localhost/test/modx/assets/flash/images/img1.jpg etc
also without the full path..but nothing happens when the html file is loaded in MODx. It shows the movie form outside modx.
Any of you wizards have a clue?
          thanks in advance.

I have a similar custom built flash slide show on my page also, I load an XML file that tells the movie what images to load.
I keep the XML file and images in http://localhost/assets/images/SlideShow/.
In the flash movie, I load the xml file with /assets/images/SlideShow/slide_show.xml - I DO NOT use http://localhost
Instead, the first slash points relaltive to the root of your server.
Then when I load the images from flash, I use the same path: /assets/images/SlideShow/image_name.jpg
This works for fine for me. If you keep /assets/ in a subdirectory /modx/, add that to the front of your path.
            you would use: /test/modx/assets/flash/images/image_name.jpg
I’m not sure why it doesn’t work when you use the full path, seems like it should, but this works for me. If it still doesn’t work, use trace() calls inside the flash movie to show you what path it is actually used to load the images. Maybe something is getting cut off in your code before it gets there.

I changed the paths as you suggested..but I am afraid nothing new happened. Flash MX is used. the flash movie the xml file and images folder are all in the assets/flash directory.
                Any other suggestions?
                Thanks in advance.

hmmm... maybe the problem is elsewhere. If I’m following you right, you said that the flash movie loads in the HTML page right? But the images aren’t loading into the movie.

First off all, since you are using flash mx, I believe you can only load non-progrssive JPEGs - so make sure they are saved like that, otherwise they wont load.

If thats not the problem, make sure the images have the proper permissions set on the server so the movie can access them. Type the image path in your browser and make sure you don’t get a forbidden message. This shouldn’t happen, but I’m running out of ideas so...

Yes, The html page with the movie loads outside MODx, like http://localhost/test/modx/assets/flash/slideshow.html

but once called from MODx server the movie background is visible but images are not displayed.:(

I have found that placing Flash .swf and Flash data files right in the root directory where Modx is installed
bypasses a lot of mapping headaches as there is no directory path to follow, just the file names.

Have you tried calling your XML and Flash within the root where Modx is installed?

                      mySlideshow.swf
                      myData.xml

                      Regards,
                      Eric
