would it be a big deal to move modx from a subfolder on domain to the root (ie from www.domain.com/folder to www.domain.com)? i have a site that i will be converting to modx from a non-cms html site. there’s already an index.php in the root (for slimstat & nothing more), so my options are to rename it to index.html & install modx in the root or install modx in a subfolder and move it to the root when complete. the latter depends on whether this would be a pain or not. would i need to do anything more than keep urls relative (and not SEF) and adjust some resource urls here & there?

    thank you.

I don’t know what that slimstat index.php does, but I would image that it is a .php file for a reason.

So I would therefore give you my standard advice on installing MODx in the same root as another app:

Before you install MODx, rename MODx’s index.php to modxcms.php, rename ht.access to .htaccess and within the file change the reference from index.php to modxcms.php - Previews in the manager will be wrong, but everything else should be OK if you use friendly URLs.

However, if slimstat’s index.php is itself being used to load other pages and track them, then you have a bigger problem.
No, I don't know what OpenGeek's saying half the time either.

Personnally, the way I’d go about that is :

        1) Backup my static website
        2) Put the static website files in a folder
        3) Install MODx at the root
        4) Import the static website into MODx -> tweak things so that everything looks OK (import is rarely click and go)
        5) Install the Slimstat plugin to continue to take advantage of the stats

i do use the slimstat plugin on other modx sites, and the plugin is pretty much the sole reason the main page of the static site is index.php rather than index.html. it probably won’t take long to convert, shelving the static site briefly may be the simplest option.

I have done this on a few occasions now when redeveloping an existing site so that editors could get used to MODx without having to touch the main site. When the new site was completly ready I just moved all the modx files up to the root and adjust the ,htaccess file. So basically, no not a big deal at all. If you’re a bit carefull with urls and paths MODx will sort itself out without a hassle.

As for slimstat, I’d follow davidm’s advice.

i’ve completed the conversion from static to modx and everything is going great except the stats. i used the same stat db info, assuming that the stats would add to whatever was there previously, and the plugin install went fine (and the code should be prerendered on the page). however, no stats are being collected since the install and slimstat sez that i need to add the code to the page. thoughts?

btw, the site i converted is www.orgasmicbirth.com
