    I started making a personal website and I made the layout all up and then decided to try out modx. I’ve got the template made and going but I had a few questions. The only one I remember right now is about the drop menu. I had a main menu vertical along the left side and certain items would bring a submenu horizontal across the top. If you look at http://road-dog.awardspace.com you can see what I’m talking about. I’m working on modx at http://jay-bird.awardspace.com. I want to see how I’m going to do the menu before I start working on anymore of the site. I know I will need to pull the css codes off of the default css sheet. First time using a cms and for my personal use I’m thinking it is a waste of time as I have no problem just editing the html pages. I wanted to learn it to incorporate it into some sites to make for other people that don’t know html. I’m using jalbum for my photo galleries unless there is something good for modx that is skinable.
    Thank you

      Check this: [solved] Sublevel Navigation

      And this: Support/Comments for Wayfinder

      There is multiple other threads about this too, but you should get your answers from those posts.. in your case, the top menu in the examples would be your side menu and the side menu your horizontal top menu. (if you want that the sub sections of each side menu will appear on the top menu)

      EDIT: fixed typo in url tag

        Thanks. I’m taking a look at those posts now. I’d looked at the posts I could find on this site the other night and I thought it was only for drop down or drop out menus. The second part is that I only want that top/subnav bar to be visible if there is something in it, otherwise I want to hide it. Writing it out on each html page made it easy to do.

          Ok, I installed the ultimate parent snippet and wayfinder. I put way finder into my template and so it comes up. Now it is time for tweaking. I think I can figure most of it out from here now, though I may end up having a few questions about styling it. Thank you for clearing that up for me. I’m sorry if I asked the same thing that many people come here with. I did look, I just misunderstood what I read.
          Thank you again

          Wait, I saw at the end of the Wayfinder page where it said
          "This resource has been deprecated."
          Does that mean I should use the drop menu instead or what?
          Thank you

            Beta 1 has been deprecated. The current version has not. Drop Menu is dead effectively and will not be developed further. Use what works for you. smiley

              Oh, ok. I got the beta 3, but they were all on the same page so I wasn’t sure. I’m going through the repository right now and downloading anything that I think I could use. Thanks

              This is in my Template
              <div class="menu">
              [[Wayfinder? &startId=`0` &level=`1`]]
              </div>

              <div class="submenu">
              [!Wayfinder? &startId=`[[UltimateParent]]` &hideSubMenus=`1`!]
              </div>

              And when I click on my submenu I get this.

              "« MODx Parse Error »
              MODx encountered the following error while attempting to parse the requested resource:
              « Execution of a query to the database failed - Unknown column ’Array’ in ’where clause’ »
              SQL: SELECT sc.parent FROM `jer_modx`.modx_site_content sc LEFT JOIN `jer_modx`.modx_document_groups dg on dg.document = sc.id WHERE (sc.id=Array AND sc.published=1 AND sc.deleted=0) AND (sc.privateweb=0) LIMIT 1

              I have it up at
              http://jay-bird.awardspace.com

              I put on the newest wayfinder and ultimateparent snippets. I’ll look at the other posts again after supper and see what I can figure out. Thanks

                It’s probably the ultimateparent snippet that causing errors for you, download the updated version (1.2) from resource repository or from the snippet support thread.

                  I thought I got the newest one off of the repository but I will check again. We had a bad storm last night and couldn’t get back on. Just stopped in to check up my mail before bed tonight. I’ll probably try tomorrow. Thank you for the help

                    I could of swore I had gotten the newest version but apparently not. They looked the same but I replaced the snippet anyway and now it works. I wasn’t planning on staying up like this, but something came up and can’t sleep so decided I’d try what you said. The first CMS I heard of was drupal, and I came across a page that had many CMS setups to try and I liked the modx. I’m glad I found it. Does anyone have a good website for me to look at to start learning php? Thanks

                      Try the Zend site; the horse’s mouth you might say.

                      The O’reilly ONLamp site has some good stuff too, although not so much for beginners.
