Should I set the permissions of the ’assets’ folder, and all directories within, to 777 ? It doesn’t sound very secure, but the Content Manager seems to want them that way.

I couldn’t find a list of which folders require what permissions, so all help is definitely appreciated.

Where have you seen the manager asking for writing permission for the whole /assests/ folder?

The only files and folders that need writing permission are:

      • /assets/cache/
      • /assets/cache/siteCache.idx.php
      • /assets/cache/sitePublishing.idx.php
      • /assets/images/
      • /assets/export/
      • /manager/includes/config.inc.php (!!after install drop writing permission!!)

Don’t give writing permissions for other files or folders unless a snippet, plugin, etc asks for this. Some snippets may need writing permissions for one file (FileDownload snippets need one writeable file) but never for the complete /assests/ folder.
