Hi,
i have a menu which is built using xml. I would like a way to be able to upate the xml using a user friendly interface. Is there anyway to achive this using modx? or do i really need to build a custom database etc..
many thanks,
G
I don’t think there’s a user-friendly XML editor for MODx, but one could be added as a module.
It wouldn’t need a custom db table if you were directly editing the XML.
One solution is to create a series of nested documents/weblinks using the MODx manager, which is fairly user-friendly.
Then you could use DropMenu or Ditto to generate the XML based on those documents, as a cached document.
Although of course, using a database to create an XML file which is then turned into a menu might be a bit silly.
The silliness is not in the DB->XML part!
One has to ask why the menu uses an XML file at all, really.
Ah... that makes much more sense. Could you please paste a copy of the menu here, so I can see how complex it is?
Also, is the content for the Flash site coming from MODx - ie does the menu relate to MODx documents?
This looks like a custom db job. It could be written as a module, which could then be used in the backend.
What part of the site *is* in MODx?
the text based sections such as news, which i am just pulling in as xml.

Why not just create a document in MODx, of type text/xml, with the blank template (i.e. no template) with that content in it? If it needs to be dynamically created, it seems it would be simple enough to insert a snippet to output the FOLDER and FILE elements.
