    Hello guys,

I have no idea if there are others with the same problem, but the manager is crashing my Internet Explorer. I know, use Firefox. I do too, but I’m setting up a small personal site for a friend and she’s using IE. Old fashion girl. grin
I did not believe her first time, but then I tested it my self and I think I’ve manage to limit the area responsible for this crash: the context menu on the page tree. I’m starting by editing a page, then cancel the action and edit another page. Right there, IE crashes and I’m getting this message:
IEXPLORE.EXE has found an error and needs to close. We are sorry for….

Here are some other technical details:
    Error signature:
    AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180 ModName: mshtml.dll
    ModVer: 6.0.2900.2963 Offset: 006d031

    This doesn’t happened in Firefox.

    Any ideas? Any suggestions?
I’ve uploaded fresh assets and manager folders (unpacked from the archive) but did not solve this serious problem.
Funny thing: this error wasn’t there in the beginning (started 2 weeks ago). It appeared yesterday, according to my friend.
I din’t modify files in the manager or assets folders. I’ve only modify "fcktemplates.xml" with my owns and of course config.inc.php (automatically at the install)

Windows Update has been know to cause IE to crash under certain circumstances. It often has to do with whatever personal firewall/antivirus/antispamware the user has installed as well.

I agree, but I’ve now tested this big problem on three different computers (three different places) and the result is the same.
And the biggest question is: why all of this sudden? Why it worked before?

Does this only happen on your friends’ site manager, or for other managers (such as the one Susan Ottwell provides access to in her signature above?)

There seems to be gazillions of different possible problems with mshtml.dll, however the fact that you get this on 3 different computers points to it being the website. Or something new in the latest patches to IE.

It’s gotta be a recent update to IE that’s causing the problem. In fact, Microsoft released an update a couple of weeks ago that is known to cause IE to crash on certain sites. A revised update has been issued that fixes the problem...which I think is this one:

            http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms06-042.mspx

Give that a shot and see if it fixes the problem. If it wasn’t happening before but is happening now then, yes, it is a change in the configuration of your computers. Hope this helps! smiley

I did install the update, but it makes no difference.
However, after spedning several hours, I’ve manged to localize the part that is "responsable" for this (beside IE >:().
The crash only happends when the context menu is used on the page tree.
If I just click on the document I want ot edit, and then choose "Edit" from the top of the page, everything is fine. Nothing crashes. So at least we now that is a Javascript related problem. Now I’m going to try to understand what about context menu is doing this.
              But thanks for your suggestions.

Well, just to be on the safe side, I’ve tested the admin demo online at opensourcecms.com and I’m getting the same error. I was thinking that the error could be related to the web server, but it is not.

                  Did you try Susan’s?
http://sottwell.com/manager - Manager user: guest, password: guestuser

That has a slightly different theme, and probably some patches.

I tried this at my dev sites that are running 0.9.2.1 and I could reproduce the problem with IE6 (just use right click content menu in site tree and select Edit couple times), but I also tried at Susan’s site that is running different theme in manager and I did not have any problems there.

My site is kind of in an odd state at the moment, it’s 0.9.2.1 with the MODxGreen manager template, and the database accidentally got updated to the 0.9.5 beta, rev 1325 (don’t ask rolleyes ), surprisingly enough it still works just fine. One of these days I’ll take the time to go ahead and upload the beta files as well.
