Hey, anyone here think that a quick and dirty preview/version system could be built around a TV and access permissions?

I’m thinking a system like one of the multilingual systems described here, where you can simply add a variable say &preview=1 to a url, and then if you’re admin or have permissions to that TV conditional you get to see a different Content TV than the public one

ie: have two content TVs with the extra one being the upcoming version but bind it to the preview variable being true. This way an edited page could be previewed in context live on the site but would only be viewable by permitted users... and when approved a simply copy paste can happen between the two text areas.

I could even hack the preview area of the admin view to show the upcoming version by default.

    Any thoughts on this?

Could work I guess. But versioning would be restricted to one TV, all other content/settings/values of the page could not be versioned. I solved my little versioning-requirements by duplicating a doc, either unpublishing the copy or restricting access to manager-users, and when done editing I replace the original with the copy using the "ReplacePage" module (can be found in the "resources" section here) which simply exchanges the ID-values of the pages.

Hmm I’ll look into that. Sounds good for someone with experience using ModX but for clients it may be too many clicks. You’re absolutely right on about other values... OTOH those values don’t change nearly as frequently as the content. Well I did say quick and dirty. Thanks for the tip thought, it might just work out for me until an official feature update happens.
