    Hello,

MODx is a SWEET piece of software, you guys deserve a lot of commendation for what you have achieved. I am a not-so-happy Joomla user, and I am considering switching to MODx on my production sites. The only thing that holds me back now is availability of third-party add-ons for MODx, since I’m not a very good programmer. I like Joomla primarily because it is so well supported, and you can find modules and components for virtually any task. But MODx is clearly superior in most other ways.

Primarily, I am interested in forums and classified ad scripts. I see you guys have SMF well integrated here, how is the integration working for you? SMF is just superb, I’m glad you chose it for integration.

I am also very interested in classifieds ads scripts, such as http://www.geodesicsolutions.com/products/classifieds/classifieds_lite.htm or http://classifieds.phpoutsourcing.com . Is there any way I can integrate these, or any other random script into MODx without using frames? Basically, I need a unique URL for every page (not obscured by frames), while maintaining my site’s theme, header, menus, and footer. I don’t particularly care about user sync, although it might be nice.

Any ideas? Thanks for your help!

Definitely not Noah’s classifieds (second link) as the license expressly prohibits redistributing modified versions.

        Hello,

I didn’t make myself very clear. I don’t want to integrate anything into the core of MODx, I just want to have one of the classifieds scripts integrated into my MODx site, in other words, "Wrapped" into my main MODx site.

        Thanks!

It’s just going to take some time for more developers to adopt MODx and produce such components, especially developers willing to contribute their work back to the community for free. We’re a young project and just haven’t had the time or resources to develop a library of add-ons like Joomla’s yet.

We’re not using any tight integration, just a few scripts here and there at specific integration points, like using forum logins to allow commenting in the MODx blog or posting an add-on in the MODx Repository.

This just completely depends on the script, how it works, and the level of integration you need. It may be very easy to turn into a snippet, or it may control everything about the page it’s rendered in and require you to render it in some kind of iframe, or maybe you’ll need to strip the content out from between a set of unique tags in the markup it produces with a snippet or a plugin to generate a MODx page using your MODx template.
