    Dear Future Colleagues wink

I recently found MODx and it looks very promising.

So, now I want to transfer one of my Mambo-based sites to MODx with minimal loss of functionality. First look at list of available plugins and addons tells me, that I have to sacrifice something. But it may be wrong. That’s why I’m asking your advise on modules, with which I can cover the following tasks:

    1) News publication
    2) Articles publication

It looks like NewsListing with customised templates will help me. Am I right and going to use the best solution?

    3) Classifieds (Job postings)
    4) Events calendar with addition of events by registered users via simple form.
    5) Un/Subscription to news (e-mail only, auto addition of all registered)
    6) Banners management
    7) Links exchange (reciprocal link check)
    8) IPB integration (may easily transfer to SMF, if its integration will be much better)

Each functional part sholud have latest items listing on front page and RSS feed.

Community pages (lj-like communities) will be a plus.

Thank you in advance for suggestion of solutions for abvementioned tasks.

Yes, you probably will have to sacrifice some features in the short term, as not everything you list is available.

Oh, you should use Ditto instead of Newslisting, it’s basically the son of Newslisting.

You seem to have a lot of web-user features, and I should warn you that this side of things is not brilliant at the moment.

Could you let us know the URL of the existing Mambo-based site?
No, I don't know what OpenGeek's saying half the time either.

BTW, anyone already migrated content from Mambo?

It looks like fields mapping pretty straightforward except:
          1) Strip HTML for introtext
          2) Combine introtext and fulltext into content with {{splitter}} chunk between them
          3) Convert 0000-00-00 00:00:00 dates into 1130304721

Anyone has converter to continue my experiments? smiley

Nobody participates in my discussion, so I continue my commentless blog smiley

I’m going to start our PHP programmer t start writing forms to re-create functionality of Mambo site.

            What you suggest to use:
            - create additional tables, which fit to content (eg: job ads with tables which will be structured as job posting form fields)
            - use ModX documents table and use posting directly to document
            ?

From an upgradability standpoint, I think using a standard MODx install would be simpler. Lots of good stuff is coming soon. smiley

But if you look from sorting, filtering etc... wink

How sorting by some key may be solved?

Personally I’d use your own tables for the job stuff. You could most likely reference the existing tables. What extensions to Mambo do you currently use?

Could you provide a link to each of the 8 areas as they stand presently, as I don’t speak your language.

1 and 2 are core Mambo things and can be done in MODx easily.
Your content migration plan seems sound.

The forum is phpBB, and not integrated into Mambo at all. And installed on a subdomain. So it shouldn’t pose a problem. Long-term it could be integrated, but I don’t see that it needs to be changed.

Everything else seems to be an add-on component to Mambo. I would imagine that you’d be wanting something in MODx that uses a similar data structure. I know nothing about these add-ons - does anyone else? If you have a PHP programmer, it is worth checking the licenses of the components because you could probably reuse a lot of code.

Frankly I think you’re going to get better response from this forum if you break things up and describe what you need from each module, rather than just a big shopping list.

From quick Googling of the "?option=com_events" type parts of the pages, it looks like these are the modules you’ve used:

                      3) Classifieds (Job postings)
                      Jobline
                      http://mambo.theyard.org/

                      4) Events calendar with addition of events by registered users via simple form.
                      Events component
I can’t find a live website for it

                      5) Un/Subscription to news (e-mail only, auto addition of all registered)
                      Yet another Newsletter Component
                      http://mamboxchange.com/projects/yanc/

                      6) Banners management
                      ??

                      7) Links exchange (reciprocal link check)
                      LinkExchange component
                      Might be http://mambo.webraydian.com/content/view/94/ ?
