I’ve spent a week trying to learn how to use MODx and I am still confused.

I would like to use it to do the following:

    • Post news/articles in various categories/subcategories
    • In a category, it lists subcategories (if any) and lists news/articles (if any)
    • Allow users to register/login
    • Registered users may submit news/articles (pending admin approval)
    • Registered users may comment and rate news/articles

    And thats it.

So what I was thinking was maybe someone could PRE-CONFIGURE MODx to be usefull for some types of websites. Thus saving people (like me) alot of time and stress.

    Anyone up for the task?

    Could make pre-configured packages for:

    • News/Article sites
    • Blogs/Journals
    • Personal site
    • Artist gallery
    • Programmer showcase
    • etc...

Are you offering a bounty for this? Funding exactly these kinds of projects which can be directly contributed back to MODx itself, will help take this project to the next level in usability for non-developers for sure!

Of course, MODx can certainly be used to do all of the things you listed, but this is not an out-of-the-box website system; it’s a next generation framework for web site developers and designers to be able to build CMS-powered websites with full freedom-of-expression, something that has been, until now, very difficult to find in an open-source CMS.

Regardless of my open-source ranting above, there are efforts underway to be able to use MODx to easily develop, package, import, and export pre-configured sites and site add-ons, as you are suggesting. These things just take time, and IMO, require a few pending changes to the infrastructure of MODx before it is truly practical.
