    Hi All
I’m new to modx, I’ve been creating both professional and personal CMS websites since 2000 and was never happy re inventing the
wheel for each site. I’ve looked at a few CMS projects and always been disappointed with them, especially with a view to accessibility.
Whilst I’ve only just started with modx I’m already blown away with the system. From consideration to flexibility to ease of install to sensible support for web standards. Where do I sign I’m a believer.

My only question is how mambo/joomla are better known than this?

well done to all who contribute, heres to getting my head back into php and adding something of my own to this excellent project....

Thanks for the words indeed. I’ll agree MODx has some really cool capabilities now, but oh man, will you like what’s next. smiley

About MODx not being as known as Joomla/Mambo : sure there is the time factor but there is also the fact that Joomla/Mambo is a "mainstream" CMS (e.g aimed at end users) while MODx targets webdesigners or people who know their way around xhtml/css and have a least few php basics.

We don’t have one-click install, a block system to place elements without knowing to build a template, and so forth... What we do have is a system which does not get in the way of the creative process (quite the contrary, it empowers skilled people to do what they want grin ) or produce tag soup tongue That’s exactly what designers want, and MODx is one of the few flexible, modern standard compliant CMS...

Our user base is growing, but what is good about it is that we have quite a talented user base (I mean, more so than most CMS communities...). It means nice templates, great snippets, plugins and modules. Also, it means faster debugging, new features and great development pace laugh

            you tease smiley

I’m a firm believer that the web was created by tim berners lee to allow contribution from a wide audience and that has to some degree failed due to the complexity of producing standards compliant content (not helped by a certain browser maker). With an open source CMS like modx and a bit of technical know how, a wide range of contributors can have input to a site and still produce clean usable content.

I’d be interestead to see how semantic web concepts can be incorporated to this project and the general direction the development will take, but on past achievements we’re going the right way.

Sorry for adding a fairly frivolous back slapping thread but this is the most exciting piece of web software I’ve seen since firefox rose from the gecko flames, if anyone knows of any other similar quality projects (forums/chat/wiki/collaboration) feel free to post...

              Thanks stewski,

I’m a bit partial myself to MODx... go figure. tongue We’ve really held back on serious marketing efforts, but it’s about that time I think after the next release. I think the last release really should’ve been deemed 1.0, as far as functionality goes, but we’ve had some lofty goals since late 2004 that are being realized in development and there’s still some baggage left to clean out from the old legacy.

              We’re getting there though!

Slightly off-topic but since the question was raised, I think Vanilla is very innovative. Personally, I think SMF is a nasty pig and not nearly as MODx-like in architecture as Vanilla. If Vanilla’s user management system could be integrated with MODx, it would be killer for new applications.

I don’t think we couldn’t run this forum on Vanilla honestly. The amount of spam registrations and user management chores alone, user controls to enable added permissions based on post counts and a few other things don’t make it right for something like MODx. If you could show me that I’m off base there, I’d love it. I think Vanilla is a great application indeed and will likely use it myself in the future. Yummy clean code and some innovative capabilities.

Now, where’s that moderator to split this sucker off and merge it with the existing Vanilla forums topic in the Off Topic category... tongue

                    Ryan,

I agree about this forum - I think. Also, sad-but-true, it is a nightmare to transition any community from one forum to another unless the case is beyond compelling. Certainly, Vanilla is light-weight by design. I was thinking of a myriad of simple forum application-integrations for fielded MODx applications. Heck, just not having to ’teach’ users (doctors, teachers, non-geeks) how to use SMF would be a big win. Vanilla would tend to fade into a MODx application - just what I dream of for the conversation side of things. I would gladly join in a conversation on another thread.
