I just installed modx and have plenty of experience with other CMS systems, but I can’t figure out how to install a new template into MODx. I download them and upload the files into the assets/templates directory and then they never show up in the admin panel. What am I doing wrong? I’m completely baffled! huh

Hi thanks for your response, but that link explains how to make a new custom template. I’m talking about installing a template I downloaded from the web (as in zip archives) ...how do I do that??? I upload all of the unzipped files onto the server, but where is the installer in the backend for activating them and making them show up in the lists in the admin panel?
        • Hi caterpixel,

You will still need to follow the same process for a downloaded template as for a custom template. (Create a new template in the Manager and copy and paste the html over into it)

With downloaded templates, you will need to modify them for use in MODx by inserting the tags described in the help as well: http://modxcms.com/adding-tags.html

          Hope that helps,

Ah I see. Thanks for your help. I suggest making that 100% clear in the documentation...add a sentence or two at the top of the template basics explaining that those instructions apply to downloaded templates as well, that way it would avoid confusion. I’m sure I’m not the only person who has had that problem. It would save us all time.

Thanks again, I’m really excited about this CMS.

You can see what I did when I made mollio templates to "work" in modx by comparing the original files from www.mollio.org to the files in this package. The css file is only modified by changing the path to point to correct places in filesystem and then replaced the content areas in .html files with modx tags/snippet calls (and changed css/js paths too ofcourse)..
