I’m missing something, obviously. How do I do this if I don’t have a copy of 0.9.1 with the installer. All I have are the original Manager and Assets folders from my old server. I thought I needed a 0.9.1 DB to use my old 0.9.1 DB, and then I upgrade. Is that not right?

0.9.1 is the code version. The backup of your database is for version 0.9.1. The upgrade is part of 0.9.2.1, which you have installed. All the installer needs is a copy of the 0.9.1 database tables inside it’s database container, and the old config file modified with the new database connection options, and it will present an upgrade option to you when you run the 0.9.2.1 installer.

        OK,

So, does this mean, I just recreate a DB to go with 0.9.2.1 installation, uplaod the old DB data to the new DB, and then run the upgrade?

        Sorry for the extreme newbieness!

You have to first upgrade the data in 0.9.1 before importing into a 0.9.2.1 install. DB structures are different enough to cause problems.

This is what concerns me, and is why I’ve done, what I’ve done.

Ignore that recommendation; I think Ryan was just in a hurry and incorrectly indicated that something needed to be done in 0.9.1 first.

Sorry to not take what you are saying on face value, but there is this too: http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,6559.msg46033.html#msg46033

I just don’t want to make things more complicated than I have apparently already done so.

If your backup contains the structure definitions (i.e. create table statements) and data, you’re fine. The problem in that thread was an attempt to import just the data from 0.9.1 tables into already created tables for 0.9.2...

I have no idea of the definition! I have a backup of the database. This is a zip file, and was the whole DB, as far as I was concerned. I used the cpanel backup facility; I didn’t save the data/tables from within the DB. - I assume this means that I have saved the structure. As I said, I know nothing about databases, I just use them from time-to-time.

                  Thanks.

I think you’re making this too complicated. Simply run your backup script to populate your new database via phpMyAdmin, in the new database, with your 0.9.1 data/structures. Then, having installed 0.9.2.1 on the server, simply run the 0.9.2.1 installer with the upgrade option (you must have your original config.inc.php inside /manager/includes to be able to run an upgrade). This will upgrade the database. If the original config has database properties for the old database, make sure you edit those for the new database before doing so.

                    Hi,

It didn’t go as it should.

I’m not totally sure if I understand your instructions.

I created a new database, giving the the same name as before, and the same user (with the same password). I uploaded the the OLD DB, from the OLD server, to this DB container.

I uploaded a fresh 0.9.2.1 files, including the installer. I could not understand what config file I was supposed to use from your instructions. I ended up using the config file from the old server, and changed the password, database name, and user. This means that the config file was exactly the same as the one from the new server anyway. - Again, am I missing something?

I ran the installer, chose "upgrade", and it apparently installed correctly. However, I ran into the very same errors I reported yesterday.

Also, using the link from the installer to login directly, I ended up with view without a doc tree, or the menu bar. This was easily got around by truncating the URL (- /index.php?a=3&id=1), but mention it anyway.

                    Thanks.

                      Hi,

For some reason the forum didn’t actually upgrade; I only realised when I saw displayed in the manager "0.9.1". I’ve now upgraded, but then had a problem with SMF. I have the following error:

                      « MODx Parse Error »
MODx encountered the following error while attempting to parse the requested resource:

I’ve searched the forum here, and the only reference to this error is here: http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,4962.msg35624.html#msg35624 and a solution is provided at the link supplied in that post. It took me a while to realise that the UserComments snippet is now included with 0.9.2.1. The supplied fix resolved the error. I think a note should be added to the SMF bridge thread about needing to edit the Load.php file in SMF Sources folder.

Anyway, thanks for the patience shown to me.
