I currently have a website that’s up, but I do not want to take it down while I install and customize MODx for a future version of the site. I would like to install MODx in the background and get everything ready to setup before I remove the current website and home page.

I have been trying to figure out how to do so easily so I don’t have to reinstall MODx into a new directory and start from scratch. I don’t want MODx to overwrite the main ’index.php’ page in the primary directory. To put it simply, I don’t want my users to notice that anything different is going on, then when I choose to, MODx becomes the primary website... any suggestions?

I believe there was a similar topic earlier that I posted in but I’ll surmise it for you here:

All you need to do is install MODx in the root of your site but leave your current index.html there. MODx will only be accessable via index.php?id= until you either turn on FURLS and remove index.html. All the while your current site will function as though nothing is changed.

I guess this is not a matter of using MODx, but of redirecting the url.
Your site must have a filesystem->URL entry like "D:\\web\sitecontent\" which is "attached" to "www.yoursite.com".
So, if you install MODx in "D:\\web\modx\" put all the content in, the only thing you have to do is to redirect "www.yoursite.com" from "D:\\web\sitecontent\" to "D:\\web\modx\" - and no user will ever notice...
