Hello, I’ve started on my very first website.
I’m familiar with html, and php, but still learning my way around css.
So I thought I’d better use a CMS so I can get something decent up in a fairly short time.

I noticed however, the install put everything into a modx-0.9.2.1 folder instead of the root directory.
I don’t want ppl to have to type in mysite.com/modx-0.9.2.1, so I wondered whether it would be a good idea to delete the modx dir and place everything in the root dir?

Are you using an IIS server? If you are using Apache, just set it up to use friendly urls with the .htaccess files.

You can just move everything, but then you have to check the paths and URLs in the site configuration section and make sure they are adjusted.

        Clovis,

I just unzipped the files on my local pc and rezipped just the main directory into one file. Then the install files are all unzipped to the current directory on my server.

Susan: forgot to mention it was on a shared hosting account, with Apache.
I’m going to try friendly URLs later, since I do want the site to be indexed by search engines.

Chuck: thanks. I deleted the install along with the mySQL db, and redid itl, starting your way.
It seems to have worked. smiley
