    Hello,

I just installed ModX and I think it is going to be great. I am having an issue that I would like to solve so I can get more involved into creating a site.

For some reason, I cannot edit the information for the default admin user, nor the default web user. Also I cannot create new users. For instance...

I log into the admin interface and select MANAGE USERS. It shows the user Built-in Administration account - Your email goes here I click to edit the info but, when I go to save, I get the following alert...

An error occured while attempting to update the user’s attributes.

I get the same error when trying to update the web user through - Manage Web users

When trying to create a New Web User, I get the alert...

An error occured while trying to save the user.

I have tried this locally on IIS as well as Apache with the same result. After searching through the forum, I can’t seem to find the answer. I have set the permissions on the required files/folders. So, I am stumped. Can anyone guide me in the right direction or offer some insight as to why this is happening? I think the issues are all related so, if we can get one of them fixed, the rest should follow.

Thank you in advance for your help and the great potential of this install.

Ok , just followup as I try to narrow this down.

I installed this on a hosted server and everything went fine. In the hosted server setup, I had to create a MySQL database prior to the install. On my local install, I was letting the install create the database. So, I tried to run the setup again, this time creating a database prior to the install of Modx.

The results were the same as descibed before. I did notice however, that the final page of the hosted install process was much different than the final install page of the local install. It looks to me as if the install stops short and doesn’t finish installing all of the modules and what not’s. The last line in the apparently incomplete intall reads...

Field "disabled" does not have a default value.

This doesn’t seem right and I am figuring that everything that needs to be setup is not getting there. I am attaching an image of the last page.

Thanks again for reading this and any suggestions for a possible sollution are greatly appreciated.

        Banta,

What version of MODx are you using? Also, what are your 2 server configurations (local and hosted)?

          Thank you for the reply.

I downloaded the latest version of MODx, which I believe is 0.9.2.1
My local server is IIS . I also have an Apache server installed locally that gave the same results. My local Mysql server is 5.0

My hosted server is an Apache server on a nix machine. I do not know which version of Mysql the host is using.

I used the same download to install both locally and to the hosted site.

Thanks again for your help. I’m new to all of this so, any help I can get is a push in the right direction.

            Banta,

I haven’t had this problem but...

It could be a (1) file permissions problem OR a (2) database problem.

I would try to fix (2) first. You did say the hosted solution worked, right? If so, export that database and import it for your local server. [!!!! Make sure you backup your current local database first !!!!!]

If that doesn’t work, check your file permissions.

I hope this helps. If not, maybe someone more knowledgeable than me could help you out. This community is pretty technical and helpful.

Thanks Chuck for all your help.

I did try exactly what you suggested with importing the working database but that didn’t work.

I have set the recommended permissions on the the files/folders mentioned in the install guide. Are there any more that should be set? I really need to get this working locally cause I am running my own server. I use my hosted server for testing purposes.

I am wondering if anyone else has had this issue or something similar? I have been able to find solutions to the other issues I have run into so far but, nothing on this one. PHP5 is what I am running.

Anyone running this successfully on IIS, I could sure use some tips/advice

Thank you again for your help!

This may have something to do with your mysql configuration; I believe the newest versions have a "strict" mode that require all non-NULL fields to have a default value specified.

Holy Smoke, That reply was faster than a short wick on a stick of dynamite!

                  I’ll check it out.

Again, I am a noob at most of this. So, is what your saying that I may have my local MySQL set up in strick mode, and I can somehow remove the strict mode setting and give that a shot. Alternatively, I can all a default value to all Non-NULL fields in the MODx database? The latter seems like a PITA.

                  Any tricks?

                  Thanks, this forum rocks!

No Need! Problem Solved! Your guidance was all it took! Strict Mode was causing the problem.

Thank you so much. I am really glad to find my decision to try MODx as my first CMS was a wise one. The support alone has made it worth while.

Wish me luck and I’ll do my best to figure things out before I post for help.

                      Thanks all
