I have just installed MODx on a server (www.lodland.info) and the setup script said that all is OK. The Manager works without errors. But when I try to open the site, I only get the "Install Now"-Screen. I suppose the index.php in the root directory has a problem including the config.inc.php file. I have also tried to write the database login data in the index.php itself, which only gave me a blank page.

I suspect that the server is the reason for this problem, because I have already installed MODx on some other servers without encountering this problem.
Does anyone have an idea why MODx behaves this way?

I have noticed that PHP has no permission to write on the server (in the Filemanager file uploading is blocked). Could this be a reason?

    Thanks, maprie

If MODx cannot find the config.inc.php file in manager/includes, it will presume that it needs to be installed. But you should not have been able to install it at all if the installer couldn’t write the file.

The Install script said that the file is there and that it’s writable. If the config-file doesn’t work, the manager shoudn’t work either, right? But it does.
Can you think of any reason why the index.php cannot find a file which is in the required directory?

          Hmmm,

Try setting your config.inc.php to 777. Run the upgrade and try it again.

If sucessful then try setting it to 755

Thanks for the advice, but it didn’t work. The upgrade said all Ok, but I still get only the Install Now Page.

Could it be a solution to enter the config data manually into the index.php file? I’ve tried this, but I must have done something wrong, as I just get a blank page. Is there a HowTo somewhere for this?

I have noticed, that on the MODx demo page a similar error to mine is visible:

Your assets/cache folder also must be writable (chmod 777). osCMS doesn’t allow it for security purposes.

All the required folders have the required permissions set, otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to install at all.

After I complained to the server admin, he changed something, and now I get this failure notice:

According to the server admin, this is probably a compatibility problem with Apache2.

Anyway, my MODx runs on a different server now...
