I have a page on my site where I have to display news items.. At present there is no need for user comments. Is this possible?
Which snippet should I use? News Listing or Ditto?

Ditto. Just don’t worry about comments if you don’t want them; that’s another snippet. although Ditto can cooperate with it if wanted.

        Thanks Susan.
Is there a topic/tutorial for using Ditto?

Read the Ditto! documentation, included in download package. Get from http://modxcms.com/repository.html

I managed to install Ditto...with the help of Zi’s reply to post
              http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,5216.0.html
              1) What I did was copy the contents of snippet.ditto.1.0.php into a new snippet under assets.
              2) Created a ditto directory under assests/snippets and placed the lang folder and ditto.class.inc.php in there.
Please tell me whether I am right here?

              Also,
embarrassed I made the snippet call and naturally there are no entries. I want to know how to add the entries. Which snippet do I use? How and where to call it.
The site has a page named NEWS. All this should be in there.
              Please help . Thanks.

You said you have page named news ? right ?

Ok, so right click on that page name in document tree, click create document here.

Enter title, long title, content etc.

save it!, dont forget to Publish it. (it shouldnt be highlighted as RED.)

Open the News page now, add Ditto call:

                [[Ditto]]

Now load the news page url in browser, you should see the entried there. Thats it!

                Hope it helps.

                regards,

                zi

Thanks a lot Zi, for the quick reply.
One more thing - I want to enter the news items (displayed the way you described) online. How do I do it? On a separate page?
                  Thanks in advance.

I am confused here! ... Dont you use MODx Manager ?

For every news item, create a new document under you News Folder. Ditto will fetch it on News page.

Being a beginner with MODx and my first attempt at a site with CMS I run into all sorts of doubts. I can only thank all you great people out there.
                      another doubt embarrassed
If I ceate a css (with my values for the ids in the sample stylesheet (pdf file)), for styling the news list, where should I call it and how?
