Basically... users use their email address as username.

Use their email address as the username when creating the user, or when registering.
I do this in my "RegisterX" snippet.
If you are using the websignup snippet, you will need to modify the code a bit to get rid of the username field and its validation check, and have the database insertion use the email field for both username and email (after it’s validated, of course).
how would that related to user signup sync with SMF would the SMF username also be the email address ?

Would you mind sharing your code please? I’d love to see how this is done
