kudos to mike eldredge at planetSmB.com hosting, I was all ready to throw in the towel, and give up on MODx and IIS all together, it turn’s out my only real error, was not allowing enough permissions on the host, now that I had the control panel. Allowing a little wider scope than the installation instructions, eliminated the errors.
I’ll post Mike’s install details here sometime soon.
I won’t be posting the do not resuscitate order that I had planned for my 2nd MODx attempt.
I’ll try to be a little less abrasive, now that I’ve got a world wide version up and running too.
Runnin’ w/ the big dawgs... woot! grin

The only things of note that Mike did and I did not, and managed to get the basic installation working were.
    6. Created blank config.inc.php file in /manager/includes directory and granted full permissions to the IUSR account. (I hadn’t granted any permissions here, since the file was already created elsewhere, not sure this mattered then? It could have been the kicker, since I wrote in bit’s and pieces from earlier attempts and maybe something was incorrect, such as session name maybe.)

    7. Granted full permissions to the ISR account to the assets directory and all of its subdirectories. (Maybe this made the difference, just going ahead and granting permissions to all of the assets folders and sub-directories, where I had them individually as the installation page recommends, I love the "use a bigger hammer" method, lol.)

Important to note then, the save_session line of code, didn’t seem to be needed, I just had other problem’s.
