    Hi all,
First post here, so go easy on me!! smiley I’m trying to setup a menu for a website as per http://www.alistapart.com/articles/hybrid This example and a few others i’ve seen use absolute positioning for the sub menu’s.

Does anyone know of a way to use Dropmenu & CSS (and Javascript) to make such a menu? Perferably WITHOUT having to use absolute positioning for the submenu?

I need the menu to be centered, and have a margin either side as I have columns down either side of the page.

I really like http://www.bryan.edu for their Modx Menu system, the only thing i’d like is to show the sub menu’s under the menu bar horizontally, instead of dropping down.

If anyone could let me know if this is possible, if it’s possible using dropmenu and perhaps point me in the right direction I’d be much appreciative.

I’ve googled and searched these forums and seem to be a bit stuck!!

I’m not a total stranger to CSS, but no expert either........and I’m fairly new to ModX & Dropmenu!

Would ListmenuX be better to use for this??

Anyway, any help, advice or comments appreciated. Links to relevant posts or articles on the web etc.

    Cheers from Australia

    Sebastiaan

P.S. LOL the button for posting this button that says "Check your spellings"..........how about check your grammar...."Check your spelling" would be more suitable I think ;-)

DropMenu is a very configurable snippet that can almost emulate any output needed by any CSS driven menu out there. However, it’s pretty complex too. We’re working on a replacement for it that should surface soon and be the new default menu system for our next release due soon. Also, our next release will include the exact code used on bryan.edu so you’ll soon have total access to that code as well. smiley

        Thanks Ryan.
Looking forward to the next release then!! I might just have to make a ’static’ version of the menu for now then and get on with developing the site until that release is there! I wanted to use the menu system supplied with ModX so that when new pages/subpages are added the menu updates aswell.

Other than dropmenu tho, it’s also the CSS required & not having to absolutely position the sub menu’s that is driving me crazy! Anyone have any advice on this aspect?

Any eta on the next release? are we talking a few weeks? Months? ;-)

Weeks. My advice is always to make a static menu if you can as it removes needless load from the server when it’s not necessary. Chunks or TVs with default content are wonderful for that. You can always build here states and selectors off of putting body IDs on various sections using another TV and @inherit for subpages.

            Hi there,

i am new to modx and i just install version 0.9.5. Everything works fine till now. I also need a 2 level menu with the dropdown feature. Is that possible with this version? I already searched in the wiki and i dont’t know how to edit this Wayfinder snippet.

edit: i just saw that you have such menu in your demo at http://demo.opensourcecms.com/modx/ so it is possible i think? ;-)

It’s possible. Look at the examples that ship with the Wayfinder download.
