    Hi,

We need to build multiple versions of a website that is based on MODx. The sites are required for different regions so Canada, US, UK and then some full translations to French and Spanish. The latter two sites will have completely different content. But the first 3 (Canada, US and UK) might only have a few pages that are actually different.

To have to duplicate the entire site to a separate install of MODx is really not efficient and will make maintenance very time consuming, particularly so if we need to add pages to every single site that might actually be identical.

I’ve heard through the grapevine that Revolution will help to solve these headaches but we need to get these sites underway now. So I’m wondering what our options are? How production ready is Revolution right now?

Before we get underway with this I just want to make sure we’re using the best approach available at the present time.

    All responses are gratefully received.

You could always try a multilingual solution I have been developing for the MODx Evolution branch: YAMS. I only released it a couple of weeks ago, so it is still in alpha, but I have put quite a bit of effort into making sure it is well documented. I have it working on an example site with rss feeds, wayfinder, ditto, sitemap, a feedback form etc. All multilingual.

I don’t know how many people have tried it out yet. I work full time doing a ’proper job’, so I tend collect bugs and get development ideas during the week and then do updates to the code at the weekend when I have the time.

Version 1.0.2 has been submitted to the MODx repository, but hasn’t yet appeared as available for download. If you want a copy of a bleeding edge version, which has the 1.0.2 updates plus a few minor bug fixes, then just shout and I’ll make it available to you.

Thanks very much for your responses, I’m going to take a look at YAMS. That sounds pretty promising.

It’s now possible to download a YAMS 1.0.3 pre-release version directly from my server. I’ll be adding more features to this before it gets officially submitted to the repository.
