The only BIG omission from MODx from my perspective and the reason stopping larger projects being ran with it ... is the lack of a FULLY FEATURED MULTILINGUAL support. Including WORK FLOW for signing off document ... is there any plan for these types of facilities in the near future?

Or are is the GOOD PLUGIN solution?

    Ideas anyone

    regards shocked)

There are very good plans and ongoing work on both of these fronts.

Don’t suppose you could give any details ... and any ideas of planed versions ? I expect i am one of may people having to contend with multi-lingual sites and having featurers native to MODx would be such a help.... Especially if workflow is also integrated.

Multi-lingual support can be handled in a variety of ways. In an ideal world, how would you want to see it handled?

Workflow will come after multi-lingual support and I agree it’s a key bit of infrastructure too! On part with versioning and rollbacks which is also equally important in my eyes anyway.

Ive seen how some other CMS sites use translation packages.

Essentially you want an option to send a page/s to a translator and for them to translated into modx direct and then you receive the page back, check it and publish it, in that language branch. Set a master language as a start option, and then the system should let you do the above for whatever pages you require.

Pretty easy workflow. Obviously if you could select many pages to send to translator at once that would help. translator has a login to modx/email and they just edit away.

I think redot has a similar approach... Simon

The best translation features that I have seen in any software package was
used in ImmerseCMS, now defunct, or at least in waiting and transition.

You will indicate a new language, and you will have a small screen with original language
on top and a space to be translated at the bottom. The language manager will keep a tally
of what percentage of the total was translated and when a new revision fwill come out, the
changed and new string s will be added and with the percentages changed from 100% you
can go and translate the modifications... very easy, very convenient, very very good for everybody!!!

              MODx should really copy it!!

I’ve got some ideas brewing on this front but would love to see some mockups posted for further inspiration. I think simple handling from a UI perspective is key for multi-lingual sites.

At this moment I just make a folder for every language. The start document contains a snippet which redirects you to the language which is set in your browser. The only problem you have is that you don’t have identical sites if you don’t sync the pages by hand and you can’t change your language of the page you are on. You can change language but you will just get on the index of the other language. But for SEO it is a better solution because all your "aliases" are in the right language.

Maybe it is a idea to make extra tabs in the manager for each language (when you edit a document). So you get for each language the "general" tab and if you click on it the content and tv variables change to the language. This way you can easy mantain the languages for a document because you don’t have to create pages for every language and you can set the document title/alias etc for every language. That way you solve the SEO problem wink
                        with regards,
