    Hello everyone,

I am new with MODx and just finished installing the latest 0.9.6.

I am running my site in Japanese and I have a problem with
    Japanese/double byte characters.

Installation went fine and I’ve changed the character set to UTF-8.

Now when I add Japanese text in the top page of the sample site, save,
and preview, everything in Japanese is deleted.

For example, when I create a new document, input "ABC01010101XYZ""
(the 01’s representing Japanese text), save and preview the file, only the
"ABC" appears and everything after it gets deleted somehow.

I’ve checked the HTML source of the page and it gives the same result.

I’ve also checked the database and it only appears as <p>ABC and nothing else.

I had the same problem with other double byte characters.

Anything that comes after any double byte character gets deleted,
including the double byte character itself.

I do not get any error messages when saving pages with Japanese text.
The MODx manager seems to be working just fine.

I know that a lot of you do not use double byte characters at all,
but it would be nice if someone could give me a helping hand.

    Thank you in advance!

If you have the language files saved as UTF-8 then you just have to check the collation of the database to be utf8_general_ci, also check the charset type of pages rendered by MODx, let us know about the result smiley
I’m going to move this topic to the internationalization forum.

Thank you for the quick reply!!!

I will check what you’ve wrote and will reply as soon as I get results.

Also, I didn’t recognize the internationalization forum. Should
have posted there from the start. Sorry abou that.

          Hi,

          Problem solved!

The default character set of the MySQL was ujis-japanese and we were not
          able to change this.

However, we were able to change the character set for each table so we changed
each of the tables to UTF-8. But this did not work for us.

We then changed the character set of our MODx site to EUC-JP and it worked!

So either way, like you said, the character set of the language file and the database had to match.

Our site is running perfectly fine in Japanese now.

Thanks so much for your help!
