I would like to change the language of ModX to German. I see that there are various language files included in /includes/lang, and a german one, too. Nevertheless, setting the corresponding check mark in the configuration dialog (Tools/Configuration/Site) does not work. I am still in English.

Can you tell what is going on here?

    Best regards,
    René

This was likely just lost in translation, but the language selection should be by a Drop Down list selection. Also, make sure to hit "Save" after you have selected German.

More importantly though, could you provide more details about your environment? This post outlines what information is very useful in diagnosing any problems:

Ok, let’s see. This is ModX 0.9.6. I am using a user account on funpic.de --- neo2dot0.ne.funpic.de, though nothing much is going on there at the moment. Information about the details of the server is not easy for me to find out, but in general, I think that they have recent versions of all relevant pieces of software in use.

The php info page of the server tells me: SecureSSI, based on php 4.4.7.
MySQL seems to be version 4.1.22.

I am using Firefox 2 for ModX, after seeing that much of the functionality isn’t supported by Opera. My operating system is Ubuntu Feisty Fawn.

If this isn’t enough, I’ll try to collect more info.

edit: I forgot to mention that the function I used to set the language was exactly a dropdown menu. When I look up the section again, the language is displayed as set to German. Nevertheless, everything is in English.

Am I wrong in thinking that the language setting you can access in the second item in Tools/Configuration/ is to affect the language of the buttons and so on of which the ModX backend consists?

I can’t seem to find posts of other people with the same problem, so maybe I am wrong in this unexpected way! But "Select the language for the MODx Content Manager" leads me to think of the backend itself.

Whatever language I choose in the dropdown list, the English language of the backend in unaffected, and I can’t see any other effects whatsoever --- though maybe they would surface somewhere if I knew where to look. huh

          Greets,
          René

Hmm... I tested language changes a few versions ago and it worked fine. But now (0.9.6.1) it doesn’t change anything except the login form page. Very odd.

Got it. Individual users have a language setting in the User tab. This will override the global setting in the Configuration. Now I remember when this was discussed some time ago!
