Word count for translation subcontracting possible?

Professional translators are paid per word. Would anybody know a quick way to show up the total number of words of all documents in a Modx folder?

I used to just open all files and then copy paste to either Word or BBEdit.
I used to do it this way since comments and such might get counted.

Indeed that’s how we do right now, Cut&Past to Word. However, our translators get an automatic message when things are changed, so we tried to do this fully automatic as well...

Are you doing this under Windows or OSX/Linux/Some flavor of Unix?

If it’s the latter, it’s a simple shell command. If it’s the former, I haven’t a clue.

It’s in the Modx database. Guess we have to figure out the MySQL commands to count words in fields of a set of records.
