I must say I enjoy having a french forum here. Having quite a bit of experience in the area of communities, I’ve found that this kind of localized subforum helps building a "local" community afterwards, with it’s own full fledged forum, a wiki... Of course it takes a lot of time and effort before a localized forum is able to provide full support for a given language, but it helps attract non-english speaking early adopters which in turn attract end users.
The goal here is to say : Yes, there are french-speaking, german-speaking or japanese-speaking...etc, users of MODx. You can have a rough estimate by the number of people on those subforums, get feedback, possibly even support
and it helps build a user base. Personnally, I know I won’t have every answer but when it’s the case I can "bridge" solutions from the english forums to the french forums. That’s what I’ve been doing for some time with Textpattern, and I plan to do the same here.
Another benefit of localized subforums is it allow us translators to discuss... translations
And translations always need maintenance, updates... and so on.
I am glad the vote went this way !
