Layout Question - customization

Hi, I’ve installed Modx for a teen site I’m working on. I’ve been working on my design Mocks and finding it difficult to invision what I need to keep in mind for incorporating the features of Modx into the layout.

The site will need a photo gallary that the client can update themselves, a pretty activate events listing that I want to tie into the home page. Are there other snippets you think would be good to have with a large teen youth group site?

I’m new to Modx and have installed other CMS’s before and like I said, finding it hard to invision this in my design.

I have considered a similar site, and have on my "list" getting three or four serious, dependable teens to write short blog entries on topics of current interest, with commenting enabled. I would want a more robust comment feature than the one that comes with MODx for the bundled blogging system, though, since they would really need to be closely moderated. We are dealing with teens here, and anyone who remembers their teenage years or has teenage children knows that they can get carried away sometimes.
