MaxiGallery - adding files from the File Manager

Hi

I am new to Modx and just trying to feel my way around.

I would like to understand why the gallery images are not supplied from the file manager within the Modx backend. This confuses me because the site content managers would need to add some images for the site via the file manager, yet images for the MaxiGallery would need to be loaded through the front end, using the manage gallery button.

Is this confusing for some users or have I missed something here??

I see what you mean. It would be nice to just have a sort of almost FTP scenario where users can "throw in" pics and have them instantly update the Maxigallery, autosize, autothumbnail, and so on. However, Maxi’s way of managing galleries is all tied together; one must manage through Maxi, as you’ve seen, or it doesn’t "know" that the other pictures are there. At least, I’m pretty sure that’s the case.

To set up something more like that, I’d probably end up using some customized Ditto stuff for that, but it’s not automagic to set up or anything.

While using the Maxi manager may be a little cumbersome, to me it’s a pretty decent way to manage the photos. Maxi can, to an extent, even be set to protect the user’s constant tendency to use pics that are much too big, for instance.

There are, of course, other scripts around that do that sort of thing. But I don’t know of any for MODx. I have not tried Gallery, but maybe that does some of that?

There’s also a backend manager for maxigalery you could check out.. could help your clients to manage galleries easier if they are already using the backend.
