I am involved in a history project for a club, which involves categorizing and identifying a number of old photographs. There are a number of people in the club who could help with the identification. But as people are spread far-and-wide, getting them all together for a beer-and-pizza, "let’s go through this pile and vote on what it is" session isn’t going to happen.
Anyone familiar with the Zoo Galaxy and other crowd-sourcing applications might be able to see that such an application could work in this case.
So.... Does anyone have any suggestions on how this could be accomplished with something like MaxiGallery (or an alternative)?
I’ve gotten MaxiGallery+Jot set up for photo blogging on a local install to get a feel for things. It seems to me that a way of dynamically tagging the photos and then having categories dynamically updated would get me most of the way there. Only certain web users would be given access to that feature - all others would just see the results of the categorization. Allowing for free-form tags or categories might give rise to list bloat, unless some kind of voting scheme were put in place (e.g. 4 people say this is a picture of Joe and 1 says Tom, so tag the picture with "Joe").
But I haven’t gotten my head around how to implement such a beast. So if anyone has seen an implementation or app that does this kind of sorting/tagging/categorizing I’d be grateful for some pointers or links.
(And if this question belongs in another forum, my apologies).
