MaxiGallery basics - Random image with dimensions

I’m trying to display a random image on the front template using:

<div id="sideimage">[!MaxiGallery? &gal_query_ids=`all` &order_by=`random` &limit=`1` &max_thumb_size=`200` &max_pic_size=`200` & max big size=`200` &thumb_use_dropshadow=`1`!]</div>

This works as planned (& I call it from a chunk). My problem is that the thumbnail is displaying and what I need is the image but resized to a max width of 250px. I’ve gone throug the forum but can’t find how to do it and I’m thinking that my logic might be wrong in the way that I’m approaching this.

The other problem I have is my complete failure to understand how to remove the edit button from my pages (currently displaying for all users), and what I need is to only have admin access that button. I any one would be kind enough to post an example of how its done I’d love to see it.

You can create a custom galleryPictureTpl where you use the normal picture instead of the thumbnail, eg. remove tn_ prefix from the image tag from [+maxigallery.picture.filename+] placeholder, so it uses the normal picture and then define the picture width in the tag itself.

Or another way is to do real resizing of the picture via phpThumb. Eg. create a custom galleryPictureTpl again and use phpThumb in the template to resize the normal picture to desired size. You can find information about how to use phpThumb in the sticky "usefull information" post.
