Maxigallery - how to uploaded pictures to another folder?

I have a MODx site that uses Maxigallery to manage pictures. I have already uploaded a large number of pictures to a folder. And now I want to move some of the pictures to another folder. Is it do-able with Maxigallery? If not, is that my only option is to delete whatever is uploaded and reupload them to the new folder?

I believe that you can do this, and then use the "sync gallery" button on the gallery management page.

Sorry Susan, I am not clear what you mean by "do this". Do what to move pictures to another folder? If you mean by deleting them from one folder and uploading them to another folder, that is not moving pictures, no "sync gallery" is needed.

Ah, well, I don’t know MaxiGallery all that well. I was under the impression that MaxiGallery associated the images with the document ID they were uploaded to (i.e. the folder named after the document ID) and to associate them with another folder would require a sync.

the best way handling lots of pictures is using a FTP Client (like FileZilla) to upload the original files to the gallery folder. But beware of the endless loop problem - see my thread http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,40443.msg243986.html#msg243986. Therein I recommend to have a subfolder "orig" of the galleryfolder to hold the originals; you have to use a slightly modified Resynch function.

Doing so, follow these steps to move pictures to a new gallery folder:

• 1. In the ressource tree of the manager, create the new ressource for the gallery. Note the ID automatically given to it by the system.
• 2. Using the FTP Client, create a subfolder (named by this ID) for the new gallery in assets/galleries (f.i., if the ID is 88, create the folder assets/galleries/88).
• 3. Create a subfolder "orig" of this gallery folder.
• 4. Copy the picture files (but not their thumb files!) to move from the old gallery folder into this folder "orig".
• 5. Go back to the manager and do a preview of the new gallery page. Click the Button "manage pictures", scroll down and click the Resynch button. Maxigallery creates the pics and thumbs in the gallery folder; the subfolder "orig" is empty after that.
• 6. To get rid of the pictures at the old location, it’s not enough to delete the files within the FTP Client. You have to delete them within the picture managing page. Note that if you choose "Delete all pictures" there will be deleted not only the pic and thumb files from the gallery folder but also this folder itself and its subfolder "orig"!
