Is it possible to upload custom thumbnails from the front-end?

I’ve searched the forums, wiki, and google with no luck. Maybe someone here has an answer...

Is it possible for front-end users to upload a custom thumbnails for gallery images?

For my gallery, I need each image to have its own custom thumbnail. These thumbnails are created in Photoshop by zooming into an interesting detail of the larger image, cropping it to a NxN square, and overlaying a custom texture. As a result, there’s no way this same effect can be achieved via MaxiGallery’s built-in watermark or mask features.

The only solution is to upload the thumbnail along with each full-size image. As far as I know, however, there doesn’t seem to be any built-in mechanism in MaxiGallery that allows the front-end user to do this. How can I accomplish this? Do I need to modify the MaxiGallery source? Or can I use some clever combination of MODx template variables + snippets?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Not possible via maxigallery admin. But you can replace the thumbnail images via ftp.

phpThumb can do zoom cropping, but only to a pre-defined place, such as center or set x,y.. phpthumb can be used with maxigallery.
